John Smith's readings for me, were hard to understand. I found myself rereading them a few times just to understand the meaning. John Smith's views on how if children are raised wrong then they could grow up to do bad things, is a very valid point. You see this everywhere in the world today, children who have no parental control grow up to led lives with no respect for authority. Another thing, I didn't know that Pocahontas never married John Smith and I can no longer watch that movie without being a little bit disapointed.

I definately agree with the child raising issue. Parents most definately have a very stong influence on their children, and how children are raised shapes their future greatly. This is not to say that one can have really good parents and not necessarily grow up with "good values," but parenting is the start of putting people on the right track in life.

Sully,
I definitely agree with you about rereading the assignments more than once. I found myself reading the same paragraph three to four times until I fully grasped what I was supposed to be learning. As well, I agree that the way in which parents raise their children reflects the actions of their children. If parents are responsible and caring, and watch what their children do as they grow up, their children will turn out to be better and smarter young adults.

Colleen, okay. I think you raise an interesting point about John Smith's piece concerning children. I think this could be considered a metaphor as well, perhaps the colonist who broke free from England are the children. Or, perhaps he was talking about children. I agree that this was an important part of the piece.

colleen,
I definitely agree with all the points you made the reading were hard to follow and took some double takesfrom me as well, and I also agree with you on the parental control issues of today and although I hadn't thought about that before I am glad you brought it up because I can really see the relationship and I also really liked erin's comment about the children being a metaphor for the colonists fight for freedom this is an interesting idea wheter it be true or not.
